Ledger Wallet — Secure crypto management

Formerly known as Ledger Live, Ledger Wallet is the official desktop & mobile companion for Ledger hardware signers — a secure interface to view balances, send & receive assets, and interact with Web3 services.

What is Ledger Wallet?

Ledger Wallet (the app previously branded as Ledger Live) is the official application that pairs with Ledger hardware signers (hardware wallets) to provide a local, secure interface for managing cryptocurrency balances, transactions, staking, swaps, and dApp access. The app itself runs on your phone or computer while your private keys remain offline inside the Ledger device — the signer never shares private keys with the internet.

Key features at a glance

  • Secure pairing with Ledger hardware (Nano series and newer signers).
  • Portfolio dashboard — consolidated balances across accounts and assets.
  • Buy, swap, and stake integrations via third-party providers (compared in-app).
  • dApp and Web3 access with on-device confirmation of transactions.
  • Local-first app design — no centralized custody: your keys remain offline.

How it works (simple)

When you connect your Ledger signer to the Ledger Wallet app, the app reads public addresses and balances. When you want to send funds or approve a dApp action, the unsigned transaction is created on the app, then sent to the signer for final approval. The device displays critical details (addresses, amounts, fees) and requires an explicit physical confirmation — preventing remote attackers from authorizing transactions without your consent.

Security tips — do these first

These are practical safety steps to protect your crypto.

  1. Download only from official sources. Always get the Ledger Wallet app and firmware directly from Ledger's website or official app stores; many scams use fake installers.
  2. Never share your recovery phrase. Ledger will never ask for your 24-word seed phrase. Treat it like cash — keep it offline and offline-only backups.
  3. Confirm all details on-device. Reject transactions that show unexpected addresses or amounts on your signer's screen.
  4. Beware of fake support and phishing. Ledger publishes official support pages; avoid clicking unsolicited links or sharing sensitive info.

Quick start — the basic flow

1) Buy a Ledger signer from authorized channels. 2) Initialize the device and write down your recovery phrase offline. 3) Install Ledger Wallet on desktop or mobile from the official site. 4) Add crypto accounts inside the app and transfer funds to addresses generated by your device. 5) For every outgoing operation, verify and approve on the signer.
